Learn More About Kalanchoe

Choosing the Right Kalanchoe

Kalanchoe is a small succulent plant that produces clusters of colorful flowers in red, orange, pink, and yellow. It’s compact and perfect for windowsills, balconies, or indoor decoration. Always pick a plant with thick, green leaves and healthy flower buds.

Soil & Bed Preparation

Being a succulent, kalanchoe needs light, sandy, and well-draining soil. A good mix is 2 parts sand or perlite, 1 part compost, and 1 part garden soil. Always use pots with drainage holes so extra water can escape.

Sunlight & Placement

Kalanchoe likes bright light for 4–6 hours daily. Keep it on a sunny balcony, windowsill, or terrace. Indoors, place it near the brightest window you have — without enough light, it won’t bloom well.

Watering & Care

Water only when the topsoil is dry. Overwatering is the main reason kalanchoe dies, so less is better. Avoid splashing water on the leaves to prevent rot. After flowering, trim away old blooms to encourage new ones.

Tools & Support

Fertilize once a month during the flowering season with a liquid or succulent fertilizer. Use small pruners to remove dried stems and shape the plant. Since it’s a small plant, minimal tools are needed.

Growth & Harvest

Kalanchoe flowers last for weeks, especially in cool weather. After the flowers finish, prune the plant and it will grow new buds. It can also be easily propagated from a leaf cutting to grow more plants.
