Learn More About Plumeria
Choosing the Right Plumeria
Plumeria, also called frangipani, is a tropical tree with fragrant flowers in white, yellow, pink, and red. It grows well in warm climates. Buy a healthy cutting or sapling with strong stems and no signs of rot.
Soil & Bed Preparation
Plumeria needs sandy, well-drained soil. Mix garden soil with sand and compost for the best results. If grown in pots, choose large containers (14–18 inches) with good drainage.
Sunlight & Placement
Plumeria loves full sun — at least 6–8 hours daily. Perfect for terraces, big balconies, or open gardens. Without enough sunlight, flowering will be poor.
Watering & Care
Water deeply but let the soil dry between waterings. In winter, water less as the plant rests. Overwatering causes stem rot, so drainage is very important.
Tools & Support
Fertilize every 4–6 weeks in the growing season with a phosphorus-rich feed for better flowering. Prune lightly to control shape. Wear gloves, as the milky sap can irritate skin.
Growth & Harvest
Plumeria flowers bloom in summer and monsoon and are widely used in garlands and for fragrance. It’s a hardy, long-living plant that thrives with minimal care once established.
