Learn More About Impatiens
Choosing the Right Impatiens
Impatiens are shade-loving plants with bright flowers in pink, red, white, and purple. Pick plants with healthy green leaves and plenty of buds. New Guinea impatiens are good for outdoor spots.
Soil & Bed Preparation
They prefer moist but well-drained soil. A mix of garden soil, compost, and cocopeat works well. Use medium-sized pots (8–10 inches).
Sunlight & Placement
Impatiens thrive in partial shade or filtered sunlight. Too much direct sun burns the leaves. Perfect for shaded balconies, verandahs, or under taller plants.
Watering & Care
Keep the soil evenly moist — water daily in summer. Don’t let soil dry out fully, as impatiens wilt quickly. Pinch back stems to keep plants bushy.
Tools & Support
Fertilize every 2 weeks during blooming with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Remove faded flowers and yellow leaves regularly. Watch out for whiteflies and treat naturally.
Growth & Harvest
Impatiens bloom almost nonstop in the right conditions. They’re seasonal plants, so enjoy their bright colors during their cycle. Collect seeds or buy fresh saplings each year.
