Learn More About Zinnia
Choosing the Right Zinnia
Zinnias are bright, daisy-like flowers in many colors. They are sun-loving and very easy to grow from seeds. Choose compact dwarf types for pots and tall types for garden beds.
Soil & Bed Preparation
Zinnias like well-drained soil with compost. Avoid too much manure, which causes more leaves than flowers. Pots of 8–10 inches are fine for dwarf varieties.
Sunlight & Placement
They need full sun — at least 6 hours daily. Without enough light, they produce fewer blooms. Perfect for open gardens or sunny terraces.
Watering & Care
Water deeply once or twice a week, letting soil dry slightly between watering. Avoid wetting the leaves, as zinnias are prone to mildew.
Tools & Support
Fertilize every 3 weeks during blooming. Deadhead faded flowers to promote new ones. Tall types may need staking to prevent bending.
Growth & Harvest
Zinnias bloom from summer to frost (in cooler climates). Cut flowers last long in vases. Easy to save seeds for the next season.
