Learn More About Mango
Choosing the Right Mango Plant
Choose dwarf or grafted varieties for pots (e.g., Amrapali, Mallika). Buy plants with thick stems and strong leaves. Avoid seed-grown plants as they take too long to fruit.
Soil & Bed Preparation
Mango prefers deep, well-drained loamy soil. Mix garden soil, compost, and sand in equal parts. Pot size: at least 18–20 inches deep for potted mango.
Sunlight & Placement
Needs 8+ hours of direct sunlight daily. Best on terraces, open balconies, or gardens. Indoor growing is not suitable.
Watering & Care
Young plants need watering every 3–4 days. Mature trees: water weekly, less during flowering season. Stop watering during fruit ripening to improve taste.
Tools & Fertilizers
Feed with compost or cow dung every 2 months. Use potassium-rich fertilizer before flowering. Neem oil prevents fruit flies and mealybugs.
Growth & Harvest
Dwarf/grafted mangoes start fruiting in 2–4 years. Harvest when fruits are plump, yellow-green, and fragrant. Summer is the main mango season.
