Learn More About Jasmine
Choosing the Right Jasmine
Jasmine is loved for its strong fragrance and beautiful white blooms. Popular types include Arabian jasmine (Mogra), star jasmine, and Italian jasmine. Always pick a nursery plant with fresh green leaves and strong stems, as weak plants struggle to flower.
Soil & Bed Preparation
Jasmine likes loose, loamy soil that drains well but still holds some moisture. A good mix is garden soil + compost + sand in equal parts. If growing in pots, choose at least 12–14 inches in size so roots have enough space.
Sunlight & Placement
Jasmine thrives in warm weather and needs 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Balconies, terraces, or open gardens are the best spots. If indoors, place it by a sunny window — but more sun = more flowers.
Watering & Care
Water jasmine 2–3 times a week, more often in hot summer. Never let the soil dry completely, but also avoid waterlogging. Pluck faded flowers daily so the plant keeps producing new buds.
Tools & Support
Most jasmines are climbers, so they need a trellis or support to grow well. Fertilize every 15 days with compost or liquid fertilizer during the flowering season. Keep an eye out for mealybugs and treat with neem oil if needed.
Growth & Harvest
Jasmine blooms mostly in summer and monsoon, filling the air with fragrance. Pick flowers early in the morning for maximum aroma. After the season ends, prune lightly to encourage new growth for the next cycle.
