Learn More About Gardenia
Choosing the Right Gardenia
Gardenias are evergreen shrubs with glossy leaves and highly fragrant white flowers. Choose healthy nursery plants with buds for better success.
Soil & Bed Preparation
They love acidic soil (pH 5–6). Mix garden soil, peat moss, compost, and sand. Use pots with drainage or plant directly in beds.
Sunlight & Placement
Gardenias need bright light with some direct sun. Morning sun and afternoon shade are perfect. Indoors, keep near bright windows.
Watering & Care
Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Mist leaves in dry weather to maintain humidity. Avoid hard tap water — they prefer slightly acidic water.
Tools & Support
Feed with fertilizer for acid-loving plants every 2–3 weeks during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and yellow leaves. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape.
Growth & Harvest
Gardenias bloom in late spring and summer with intense fragrance. They are sensitive but very rewarding once established. Their flowers are widely used for decoration and perfumes.
