Learn More About Azalea
Choosing the Right Azalea
Azaleas are stunning flowering shrubs with blooms in pink, red, white, or purple. Pick compact plants with many buds for longer flowering at home. Avoid plants with drooping leaves.
Soil & Bed Preparation
They love acidic soil (pH 5–6). Mix peat moss, compost, sand, and a little garden soil. Pots of 10–12 inches are fine for smaller azaleas.
Sunlight & Placement
Azaleas prefer partial shade. Morning sun with afternoon shade is best. Too much heat burns leaves and reduces flowering.
Watering & Care
Keep soil moist at all times — never let it dry completely. Use soft or rainwater if possible, as they dislike hard tap water. Mulch with leaves or bark to keep roots cool.
Tools & Support
Fertilize with an acid-loving plant fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during growth. Remove faded flowers and prune lightly after blooming to maintain shape.
Growth & Harvest
Azaleas bloom in late winter to spring with a burst of color. They can live for many years if cared for properly. Great for balconies, terraces, and shaded gardens.
