Learn More About Hibiscus

Choosing the Right Hibiscus

Hibiscus plants come in single, double, and hybrid flowers in many bright colors. Choose a healthy sapling with glossy green leaves and no pests. Hibiscus grows best in warm, tropical weather, so it’s perfect for most Indian homes.

Soil & Bed Preparation

Hibiscus loves rich, airy soil. Mix 2 parts garden soil, 1 part compost, and 1 part sand. Large pots (12–14 inches) are best because hibiscus grows into a bush. The soil should drain well so roots don’t rot.

Sunlight & Placement

Hibiscus needs 6–8 hours of direct sunlight every day. Keep it outdoors in an open space or terrace for maximum flowers. If kept in shade, it will grow but produce fewer blooms.

Watering & Care

Water daily in hot summer and every other day in winter. The soil should always be moist but not soggy. Remove dried flowers immediately so the plant keeps producing more.

Tools & Support

Prune long stems after the flowering season to make the plant bushier. Fertilize once a month with compost or an NPK mix for healthy growth. Spray neem oil or soap water to prevent whiteflies and mealybugs.

Growth & Harvest

Hibiscus can bloom throughout the year in warm regions, with peak flowers in spring and summer. Flowers last only a day but new buds keep appearing. Pick them fresh in the morning if you’re using them for puja.
