Choosing the Right Pomegranate Plant
Select dwarf or grafted varieties for pots (like Nana or Bhagwa). Buy plants with thick stems and green leaves. Avoid plants with brown spots on leaves.
Soil & Bed Preparation
Needs well-drained sandy loam or red soil. Mix garden soil, compost, and river sand in equal parts. For pots, use containers 14–18 inches deep.
Sunlight & Placement
Requires 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Great for terraces, balconies, and gardens. Without enough light, fruiting is poor.
Watering & Care
Water once or twice a week; keep soil moist, not soggy. Reduce watering after fruits form to improve sweetness. Avoid watering during heavy rains to prevent root problems.
Tools & Fertilizers
Feed monthly with compost or fruit fertilizer high in potassium. Neem spray prevents aphids, mealybugs, and fungal issues. Prune old, diseased, or crossing branches regularly.
Growth & Harvest
Plants start fruiting in 2–3 years. Harvest when the fruit skin turns red and makes a metallic sound when tapped. Main harvest season is late summer to autumn.
